To quote
Adlai Stevenson, who was
quoting G.B. Shaw, who probably was quoting
Thomas Jefferson, who was quoting
Joseph de Maistre, people get the government they deserve. When jokes started flying following the election that
distraught Democrats were going to
move to Canada, they were fine as jokes. But some are taking this idea seriously. The Seattle weekly paper,
The Stranger, went so far as reassure the
blues that they didn't need to emigrate, that's a bit much.
It was one election. Get over it. Taking your marbles and leaving is childish. If you are unhappy with the results, work to get someone else next time. To
paraphrase a
philosopher, "If you don't like the party, don't leave in a huff."
