MIT's
Gas Turbine Laboratory has
announced that they are working on
jet turbine engines smaller than a
dime. These new micro-turbine engines spin at over 1 million
RPM, and
can be used instead of
fuel cells to replace all kinds of
batteries. They could even be used to provide power in
third-world countries. (BTW, in case you were confused, the picture is a
GE90 engine from the new
Boeing 777.)
